About Us

The 96% Project is a Wisconsin based 501c4 that identifies, recruits, and mentors principled first-time conservative candidates for local elected office. With 96.3% of all elected positions in the United States at the local level, we believe real and lasting change begins in our cities, counties, school boards, and towns. We seek out talented leaders from all walks of life and equip them with the training, coaching, and mentorship they need to run successful campaigns and serve the public effectively.

Our name derives from the often unknown fact that 96.3% of all elected offices in the nation are at the local level. The media, party's and institutions give the 1% of races near 99% of all attention, but it is the local races that ultimately make the decisions that impact our day to day lives the most.

The benefits of investing in local elections is many, not least of which is better, more responsive government. Another key element is the building of a bench of future leaders that will be "promoted" through the governmental system to that 1% of offices. While that is not the central motive of the Project, it is a serious consideration. We seek out talented local leaders that have potential to serve a community well. If they so happen to be interested in continuing their public service at a "higher level", we are always happy to continue to provide mentorship support.

We are a network. We are leader builders. We are culture changers. One community, one candidate at a time.
